1 Agustus 2011, Malang (Kompas.com): Kepala Staf TNI Angkatan Udara Marsekal TNI Imam Sufa’at meresmikan monumen OV-10F Bronco di Lanud Abd Saleh, Malang, akhir pekan lalu.

Ini menjadi penanda berakhirnya masa pakai pesawat OV-10 Bronco. OV-10 Bronco telah di-grounded dan akan digantikan dengan pesawat tempur Super Tucano. Setelah peresmian, Imam beserta rombongan meninjau shelter Skadron Udara 21 yang akan dibangun untuk pesawat baru Super Tucano.

26 Januari 2011, Yogyakarta -- (Pentak Lanud Adisutjipto): Kepala Staf Angkatan Udara Marsekal TNI Imam Sufaat, Selasa (25/1) menyerahkan pesawat OV-10 Bronco kepada Kepala Museum Pusat TNI Angkatan Udara Dirgantara Mandala Letkol Sus Drs Sudarno. Acara serah terima dilaksanakan di Ruang Utama Museum dan dihadiri seluruh perserta Rapat Pimpinan TNI AU dan Apel Komandan Satuan Tahun 2011.

Sesaat sebelum peresmian, Imam Sufa’at menyampaikan harapannya agar dengan memonumenkan pesawat yang memiliki julukan si kuda liar atau biasa disebut kampret di jajaran TNI AU ini dapat menjadi sarana untuk mengenang kiprahnya dalam medan laga dan para awak yang telah gugur bersamanya.

OV-10 Bronco telah berjasa di antara lain Ops Seroja (1976-1979) di NTT, Ops Tumpas (1977-1978)di Irian Jaya, dan Ops Halilintar (1978) di Riau. Setelah peresmian monumen, KSAU beserta rombongan meninjau Skadron Udara 21 untuk pembangunan shelter pesawat Super Tucano yang akan datang menggantikan pesawat gaek OV-10F Bronco.

Lemhannas Gelar Seminar Terorisme dan Pameran Senjata

TEMPO Interaktif, Jakarta - Lembaga Ketahanan Nasional (Lemhannas) RI mengelar seminar penanggulangan terorisme mulai hari ini, Selasa, 2 Agustus 2011. Seminar yang akan berlangsung selama 2 hari ini menghadirkan sejumlah pembicara, di antaranya Wakil Asisten Teritorial Kepala Staf TNI AD Mayor Jenderal Agus Surya Bakti, pengamat terorisme Al Chaidar, Wakil Kepala Badan Reserse dan Kriminal Polri Inspektur Jenderal Bekto Soeprapto, pengamat terorisme dari Australia Beliver Singh, serta AS. Hikam dari Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama.

Pada hari pertama seminar, pembahasan akan difokuskan pada penanggulangan terorisme dengan menggunakan pendekatan secara lunak (soft approach). Seperti penanggulangan terorisme melalui bidang ekonomi, penguatan pendidikan dasar, serta deradikalisasi.

"Seminar ini untuk mendapatkan pembahasan mendalam soal terorisme," ujar Gubernur Lemhannas Budi Susilo Supandji di Gedung Lemhannas.

Seminar juga akan memfokuskan penanggulangan terorisme dengan metode pendekatan keras atau hard approach. Ada tiga cara yang bisa digunakan melalui pendekatan keras ini. Yakni melalui intelijen, pendekatan hukum, dan militer. "Setelah dibahas, naskah seminar akan dikirimkan pada Presiden sebagai masukan kebijakan," ujarnya.

Tak hanya pemaparan dari para pembicara, seminar tersebut juga sekaligus mempertontonkan sejumlah persenjataan untuk penanggulangan terorisme dari Detasemen Khusus Anti Teror Bravo 90 (Den Bravo) Paskhas TNI Angkatan Udara, Detasemen Jalamangkara (Denjaka) Marinir TNI AL, serta Satuan Penanggulangan Teror-81(Sat-81) Kopassus TNI AD. Detasemen Khusus Antiteror 88 Polri juga menampilkan contoh-contoh bom yang digunakan para pelaku teror, seperti dalam kasus Bom Bali, bom buku Utan Kayu, bom Cirebon, dan bom Serpong.

Detasemen Bravo TNI Angkatan Udara (AU) memamerkan sebuah senjata canggih berupa senapan piranti penembak jitu yang diklaim mampu menghancurkan tank baja atau bangunan yang berasal dari material baja.

Peralatan perang canggih bernama NTW ini dipamerkan bersamaan dengan seminar bertajuk Penanggulangan Terorisme bagi Persatuan dan Kesatuan Dalam Rangka Ketahanan Nasional” yang digelar di Gedung Lemhanas, Jakarta, Selasa (2/8/2011).

Menurut Anggota Detasement Bravo TNI AU Serda Ahmad Ridwan, senjata canggih mutakhir buatan Afrika Selatan memiliki amunisi berkaliber 20 mm.

“Ini senjata counter sniper yang memiliki amunisi dua kali ledakan. Selain bisa menghancurkan tank, bisa juga menghancurkan material baja. Ini senjata tercanggih yang dimiliki TNI AU, khususnya jenis sniper,” ujarnya.

Selain senjata NTW, dalam kegiatan itu juga ikut dipamerkan sejumlah peralatan canggih milik TNI yang berfungsi untuk mengantisipasi ataupun menjinakkan bom. Salah satunyanya adalah Robot Vehicles Defender System milik TNI Angkatan Laut.

Pasukan Libanon dan Israel Saling Lepaskan Tembak di Perbatasan

(AP/Lutfallalh Daher) Pasukan pemelihara perdamaian PBB asal Spanyol yang duduk di atas kendaraan lapis baja berpatroli di perbatasan di daerah Wazzani River, Libanon, Senin (1/8) pasca bentrokan pasukan Libanon dengan Israel.

Jerusalem, (Analisa). Pasukan Israel dan Libanon terlibat bentrokan, Senin (1/8), di perbatasan, daerah bergolak tempat ketegangan dengan mudah bisa menyulut kembali permusuhan antara kedua negara.

Para pejabat kedua belah pihak belum melaporkan korban jiwa dan masing-masing pihak saling menyalahkan atas bentrokan tadi.

Menurut militer Israel, pasukan AD Libanon menembaki pasukan Israel yang secara rutin berpatroli di perbatasan di wilayah Israel, sehingga mendorong pasukan Israel membalas tembakan.

Penembakan tadi terjadi setelah pasukan Israel memasuki wilayah Libanon, kata seorang petugas militer Libanon. Aksi penembakan tersebut terjadi di sepanjang Wazzani River di ujung tenggara Libanon di seberang dari posisi-posisi Israel.

Neeraj Singh, seorang jurubicara pasukan pemelihara perdamaian PBB di Libanon, mengatakan, tembakan tadi berhenti dan daerah itu tenang. UNIFIL melakukan penyelidikan untuk memutuskan bagaimana insiden bisa terjadi, tambahnya.

Para pejabat militer Israel mengatakan, Israel ingin mengatasi situasi dan memelihara ketenangan di perbatasan.

Tindak kekerasan tadi memicu ketegangan baru pada tapal batas bergolak tempat Israel dan militan Hizbullah Libanon berperang lima tahun silam selama sebulan.

Pada Mei, pasukan Israel bentrok dengan massa demonstran Libanon pro-Palestina yang mendekati perbatasan. Pihak militer mengaku melepaskan tembakan setelah demonstran mencoba merusak pagar perbatasan. Tapi menurutnya, enam demonstran yang tewas mungkin ditembak oleh pasukan AD Libanon, klaim yang dibantah Libanon. (AP/es)

China to Enhance Modernization of Military Forces

China will steadily reform national defense and the army and constantly modernize the military forces, said China's Minister of National Defense. Defense minister Liang Guanglie made the remarks at a reception in Beijing Sunday celebrating the 84th founding anniversary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
August 1 every year is China's Army Day.
"In the world today, peace, development and cooperation remains the trend of the times. However, world peace and development faces multiple challenges. China is going through unprecedented and extensive social changes," said Liang.
He said the army faces more arduous and heavier tasks and should stay alert to challenges.
He called for enhancing the capability to accomplish diversified military tasks, with the capability to win local wars under the conditions of informatization at its core.
"We will expand and deepen preparedness for military struggle, vigorously carry out military training under the conditions of informatization, promote independent innovation in defense science and equipment development," said Liang.
He also called for accelerating the building of modern logistics, intensifying the training of high-caliber and new-type military personnel, actively and steadily carrying out defense and military reforms and constantly modernizing the PLA.
Liang, also a member of China' Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said the army will continue to oppose and deter the secessionist activities for "Taiwan independence" to make due contributions to the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and China's complete reunification.
He also pledged working for long-lasting peace and common prosperity of the world.
"(We will) continue to follow the independent foreign policy of peace, deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation with the armed forces of other countries and contribute to building a harmonious world of enduring peace and common prosperity."
Over the past 84 years, the PLA has made outstanding contributions to safeguarding the nation's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity as well as advancing China's economic and social development, said Liang.

China needs at least three aircraft carriers to defend its interests, a general said, days after the state media broadcast footage of its first carrier in a rare public mention of the project.
"If we consider our neighbours, India will have three aircraft carriers by 2014 and Japan will have three carriers by 2014," General Luo Yuan, a senior researcher with the Academy of Military Sciences, was quoted as saying by Beijing News.
"So I think the number (for China) should not be less than three so we can defend our rights and our maritime interests effectively."
His comments, published Friday, came after China sought to downplay the capability of its first aircraft carrier, saying on Wednesday the vessel would be used for training and "research".
Beijing believes that the three Japanese carriers it referred to, built for helicopter operations, could eventually be converted into full aircraft carriers.
China recently confirmed it was revamping an old Soviet ship to be its first carrier, a project that has added to regional worries over the country's fast military expansion and growing assertiveness on territorial issues.
"We are currently re-fitting the body of an old aircraft carrier, and will use it for scientific research, experiments and training," defence ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng told a news briefing.
Asked whether the carrier's addition to China's military arsenal would significantly raise the country's military capability, Geng said only that to "overrate or underrate the carrier's role are both incorrect".
The United States on Friday welcomed China's mention of the carrier, calling it a step toward better transparency between the Pacific powers.
China's People's Liberation Army -- the largest armed force in the world -- is extremely secretive about its defence programmes, which benefit from a huge and expanding military budget boosted by the nation's runaway economic growth.
The PLA also operates the country's navy.

Lockheed Martin’s F-35 flight test program moves closer to achieving year-end milestones since the last update issued June 13. The F-35 Lightning II 5TH Generation multirole fighter conducted 107 test flights, bringing the total number of flights for the year to 518.
Overall, the F-35 program remains ahead of goals for test flights. Through July 25, the program accomplished 518 flights versus a plan of 476.
Several flight test and production key milestones were accomplished since the last report:
The fifth Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II short take off/vertical landing (STOVL) flight test aircraft was delivered to the Marine Corps arriving at Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River, Md., on July 16.
AF-9, the first production F-35 delivered to Eglin Air Force Base (AFB), Fla., arrived July 14 and AF-8, the second Eglin jet, was delivered July 20. AF-8 is the eighth F-35 delivered in 2011. The jets will be used for activities in concert with training F-35 pilots and maintainers at the new F-35 Integrated Training Center.
Jet Blast Deflector (JBD) testing was performed by F-35C Lightning II carrier variant (CV) aircraft CF-2 at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. from June 25-July 8. CF-2 successfully completed this portion of tests required to ensure the F-35C is compatible aboard an aircraft carrier.

• AF-6 and AF-7 commenced Maturity Flight testing of the training syllabus software at Edwards AFB. This software will be used for training at Eglin AFB this fall.
• Four F-35s completed their first flights since the last update: AF-10 on June 26, AF-11 on July 1, AF-12 on July 8, and AF-13 on July 14.
• AF-2 completed the 1,000th test flight (including AA-1) for the F-35 System Development and Demonstration (SDD) test program on July 6.
• AF-3, at Edwards AFB, completed the 500th SDD flight for 2011 on July 21.
• 122 vertical landings have been performed to date.

Cumulative flight test activity totals for 2011 are provided below:

• F-35A conventional take off and landing (CTOL) jets have flown 250 times.
• F-35B short take off/ vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft have completed 187 flights.
• F-35C carrier variant (CV) jets have flown 81 times.
• From the start of flight testing in December 2006 through July 25, 2011, F-35s flew 1,065 times, including the production-model flights and AA-1, the original flight test aircraft.

The F-35 Lightning II is a 5TH Generation fighter, combining advanced stealth with fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network-enabled operations and advanced sustainment. Lockheed Martin is developing the F-35 with its principal industrial partners, Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 126,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation’s 2010 sales from continuing operations were $45.8 billion.

Iraq PM pushes US training mission, F-16 deal

Iraq will ask for future defence contracts to include provision for trainers, bypassing MPs to allow some US soldiers to stay past a year-end pullout deadline, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Saturday.
Maliki also told reporters he had revived talks to purchase 36 American F-16 fighter jets, rather than the originally mooted 18, in a multi-billion-dollar deal that has been on the cards for several months.
"Training missions do not need the approval of parliament," the premier told a news conference.
"The government will include in agreements to purchase weapons that there should be trainers to train Iraqi forces to use these weapons."
Maliki said he submitted a report to parliament which concluded Iraq's security forces still required training on purchased weapons. He did not give details on the report.
Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said this month that plans for a contingent of US military trainers were gaining traction among Iraqi leaders, but no agreement has yet been reached on the future of the American presence here.
Iraqi leaders have already missed a self-imposed July 23 deadline to reach agreement and, in the past, political deals have rarely been reached during the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which is set to start Monday.
Politicians have previously noted the difficulty of reaching an agreement in parliament on a prolonged American troop presence, as many Iraqis still view US forces, who led a 2003 invasion to oust Saddam Hussein, as occupiers.
Maliki said he had signed documents restarting talks to purchase F-16s from the United States, a deal that had been close to agreement earlier this year but was put off due to widespread protests railing against poor basic services.
The original deal had involved the acquisition of 18 jets, but Maliki said the new contract would lead to the purchase of 36 F-16s.
"The new contract will be larger than what we agreed earlier, to provide security for Iraq," he said.
Any potential deal would be worth billions of dollars and take years to implement, as it would require the manufacture of the planes and the training of Iraqi pilots.
US commanders say that while Iraq's forces are able to maintain internal security in the country, improvement is required in protecting Baghdad's airspace, territorial waters and borders.
