Second Air Defense Radar System Delivered to Indonesia

Second Air Defense Radar System Delivered to Indonesia

ThalesRaytheonSystems has delivered a second air defense radar station to Indonesia. It was commissioned in the presence of Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Udara (TNI-AU) officials at an inauguration ceremony on Nov. 15. The first radar station was successfully commissioned by TNI-AU in March 2011.
Located in the Eastern part of Indonesia, the new radars will feed air surveillance data to TNI-AU’s command and control center in Jakarta. The C2 center, developed by ThalesRaytheonSystems, is responsible for airspace surveillance, interceptor tasking and control, and providing air space protection over the 17,000 islands and across 33 provinces.
“Since the 1970s, Thales and ThalesRaytheonSystems have worked side-by-side with the Indonesian government on the installation of long-range radars and national and regional air command and control centers. This year will mark a significant milestone in the development of Indonesia’s national air defense system with the commissioning of these additional radars in some of the most remote regions of the Indonesian archipelago,” said Philippe Duhamel, CEO, ThalesRaytheonSystems, French Operations.
By partnering with local companies and training Indonesian personnel, ThalesRaytheonSystems has also enabled TNI-AU to tailor cost-effective life-cycle support. This approach has the added benefit of creating local jobs and strengthening the country’s domestic knowledge of radar technologies.
ThalesRaytheonSystems is an international company specializing in air defense systems, command and control systems, 3-D air defense radars, battlefield and weapon locating radars. Since its founding in 2001, ThalesRaytheonSystems has become one of the defense industry’s most successful transatlantic joint ventures. The company employs 1,600 people and is equally owned by Raytheon and Thales.
