Pembelaan terhadap pasukan Indonesia juga diberikan oleh mantan Komandan UNIFIL Mayjen Alain Pellegrini dari Prancis. Menurut mereka, pasukan UNIFIL kerap terjepit dalam situasi, seperti yang dialami tentara Indonesia.

"Jika melindungi Israel, UNIFIL akan dituduh Hizbullah membela musuh. Jika kebalikannya, Israel juga menuduh UNIFIL membantu Hizbullah," kata Alain.

Lokasi pertempuran pun pas berada di pagar perbatasan. Tayangan televisi menampilkan traktor Israel memotong pohon di wilayah Libanon dengan sengaja melewati pagar perbatasan.

Media-media Libanon mengecam tentara Indonesia karena pergi dengan taksi menyusul bentrok Israel-Libanon. UNIFIL pun memberikan pembelaan.

2 Personel pasukan penjaga perdamaian itu dikatakan sudah berusaha sekuat tenaga menghentikan perang. Akhirnya mereka diperintahkan mundur untuk diganti dengan pasukan UNIFIL lain yang lebih besar.
